What is the RMSc footprint?

The RMSc came out of Shield Sights and their Mini Compact optic, and the pattern is small on purpose. It uses two mounting screws and four recoil bosses, two at the front and two at the rear, that lock the optic into the slide and take the recoil. That is the whole interface. Because it is compact enough to sit on a subcompact slide without swallowing the top, other optic makers built to the same pattern so their micro red dots would drop into the same cuts and holsters. The footprint belongs to the Shield RMS family, and it is the default on small carry guns.

Does the size matter? 40mm vs 46mm

Yes, and this is the trap. The RMSc screw and boss pattern exists at two physical lengths. Micro optics like the Shield RMSc and the RomeoZero run about 40mm long. Full-size optics on the same pattern, like the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, run about 46mm. A slide cut for the 40mm version will not accept a 46mm optic, and the reverse is true as well, even though the screws line up. So on a small slide, “it’s RMSc” does not settle it. Confirm the physical length your cut takes before you buy.

Which pistols are cut for the RMSc directly?

80, and they are the guns people actually carry. The Sig P365 family, the Springfield Hellcat, the Smith and Wesson Shield Plus, and even the slim Glocks are on the list. The Sig P365 Optic Ready and the Springfield Hellcat OSP both take an RMSc optic with no plate at all.

The Glock detail is worth calling out. The Glock 43X MOS and 48 MOS are cut for the RMSc directly. The full-size MOS Glocks are not. On a slim Glock the optic bolts to the slide. On a Glock 19 MOS it does not, because that slide is cut for a plate instead. Same brand, same MOS badge, different answer.

What if your pistol is not cut for the RMSc?

Then a plate bridges the gap, the same as with any other footprint. A full-size Glock MOS or a Sig P320 plate system is milled for a plate, not for the RMSc, so you buy the plate that presents the RMSc pattern and bolt your optic to that. You add a little height and one more set of screws to torque and thread-lock, but done right it holds zero fine.
